This course offers an overview of the Gospels and Acts, examining the distinct purpose, central messages, and theological themes of each book. Special attention is given to how each book communicates the presence and activity of God, particularly through Jesus as the incarnate Son and the Holy Spirit’s work in the early church. Students will also explore the historical context, literary structure, and intended audience of each book to understand the unified yet diverse witness of the Gospels and Acts. This course provides a foundation for interpreting the New Testament with both academic insight and spiritual reflection.
The Old Testament (or Hebrew Bible) is the record of the interaction between the people of ancient Israel and their God. This course introduces students to the literature of ancient Israel, its rituals, the stories which established a people’s identity, and which defined their moral behavior. OTSII focuses on the Poetic and Prophetic books.
